STATUTE - a written law passed by a legislative body. A rule of an organization or institution.

COMMANDMENT - a divine rule, especially one of the Ten Commandments.

LAW - an individual rule as part of a system of law.

REGULATION - a rule or directive made and maintained by an authority.

The Jewish tradition is that there are 613 commandments or mitzvot in the Torah (also known as the Law of Moses) first documented.

The 613 commandments are divided into "positive commandments" (mitzvot aseh) and "negative commandments" (mitzvot lo the mitzvot), which require people to refrain from performing specific activities.

Due to the Second Temple's destruction, many mitzvot are no longer observable, despite their continued religious significance. There are 26 commandments that only apply in the Land of Israel, according to one common calculation, for a total of 77 positive and 194 negative commandments that can be followed today.

Exodus 15:26

NUMBERS 9:12 - "They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break a bone of it; according to all the statute of the Passover they shall observe it."

PASSOVER - the major Jewish Spring Festival which commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery, lasting seven or eight days from the 15th day ofNissan.

PASSOVER STATUTE - in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread unto the LORD; seven days ye shall eat unleavened Bread. In the first day ye shall have a holy convocation; ye shall do no manner of servile work.

PASSOVER LAW - dietary rules restrict the use of grains that can ferment and become leavened. These grains are wheat, barley, spelt, oats, and rye. During Passover, people can only eat unleavened grains. Wheat flour is permitted only if it is baked into Matzah (Unleavened bread).
